Editorial review:

The hotel The Colonnade has some history in that it was the hotel where Sigmund Freud stayed after he fled Venice. It is delightful, located in Little Venice in a lovely Victorian structure. There are three rooms in the basement, along with 43 guestrooms above ground that are light, spacious and charming. It is located just up from Grand Union Canal.

Overview

The traditional 4-star The Colonnade Hotel lies within walking distance of Hyde Park, Selfridges and Buckingham Palace. The building was renovated in 2012.

The hotel boasts good location not far from a theater, a palace and a museum as well as woods and greenery. Nestled in the residential district and 5 km from the city center.

Shopping centers and boutiques are also set close by.

The metro station Paddington (H&C) is easy to reach. The hotel lies within 20 km of London City airport.

Rooms

The rooms in The Colonnade Hotel are fitted with a trouser press, a private balcony, television, a private terrace and a mini bar. The rooms look on to the city. They feature fresh décor and antique dark-wood furniture.

Eat & Drink

The property is located near a train station, just about 50 meters from Red Pepper and Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Room serving a wide selection of dishes.

You can start your day with a full english breakfast, which costs GBP 17.20 per person per night.

I loved the efficient friendliness of the staff, attentive but not crawling over you.

As with many hotels, there are a large proportion of staff that speak with foreign english - although their literacy was higher than most other hotels.

    Nice toiletries

The hotel is in need of some attention. Our bathroom was very shabby (we did point this out to staff and received a discount which was fair) and the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable.

The staff were professional and very friendly. The room was very comfortable. Well located but quiet.

The food in the restaurant was very good. However it is a bar and restaurant which limits space and does not allow fo a quiet dinner - good to see some life though.

The bed and the linens were of very high quality and very comfortable. The room was a very comfortable and roomy size.

The elevator did not go directly to our floor requiring climbing narrow stairs part of the way. The room had a skylight that in order to be closed had a shade cover that was extremely hard to operate.

Very convenient location next to the tube. A great building very stylish Georgian architecture

The basement room was a little dark and you could hear the rumble of the tube deep underground beneath the hotel - a distant rumble. Would ensure I booked a room higher up the hotel next time.

The Colonade was a terrific place to stay for our first trip to London. The location is simply superb. We found the neighborhood to be a small community in itself with great amenities, including delightful places to eat. Strolling the neighborhood in early mornings/evenings was really fun! The Colonade itself reminds us of old world European accommodations; beautiful, quiet, and very respectful of guests. We stayed for four nights at the beginning of a 3-week holiday, and then 3 nights at the end of our holiday. Access to the tube could not have been easier, and we soon felt right at home coming/going. Outstanding value and ambiance!

I've stayed at the Colonnade many times in the past ten years or so. I've always found the hotel welcoming with friendly staff. The reason I chose to stay here was that it was beautifully decorated and furnished with very nice furniture. It certainly felt like staying in an 4-5 star hotel. The rooms were always immaculately turned out with luxury bedding and towels. I even had a postcard left in the room saying "Welcome back Mr ,,,,,,", On my return in the evening the bed would be folded down with a box of chocolates on my pillow and the Radio Times left open at the appropriate page and the TV remote on top. It was those touches that made the difference.

During my last stay I was left somewhat disappointed. The entire Hotel had a smell which I can only describe as an old peoples home or a budget Blackpool B&B! It was awful. We had to have our bedding changed as the bedspread was stained and a sheet had a cigarette burn on it. (The staff dealt with this by changing the bedding and even offered an alternative room,) The bathroom was really small. If I was stood at the sink, my partner couldnt get in and the gap between the sink and the shower was tiny making it awkward to get in. Gone were the floral displays in the reception area, the Radio times, the welcome card and the chocolates. My partner and I were left bitterly disappointed.

good location, fairly traditional, well appointed rooms and general area, a sense of quality, nice bathroom

the room was very small indeed. two people need more space. the whole hotel was shrouded in scaffolding which very much spoilt the appearance and therefore the impression given

the localization , it's a charming hotel is character and history .I liked the kindness of the service of the reception , the water in the room is complimentary , close to hotel there are some restaurants with good food and not to expensive. We can walk around the hotel .

I didn't like the bed bacause the maitress is too soft .

The location is one of my favourites. The canals, restaurants, bars of Little Venice and the proximity to the tube station is ideal. Also, being next door to the finest bar in London.... The Prince Alfred.

The Colonnade is a very old building and it is starting to show both inside and out. It looks like the outside is getting work done as there is scaffolding all around. Hopefully the inside is too as it could really benefit from it. The E Bar was also closed which was disappointing but the Prince Alfred next door is the best anyway

Have stayed at The Colonnade a number of times now and always love it. The staff are extremely friendly and the hotel has lots of character. Plenty of places to eat right next to the hotel and slightly further afield if you don't mind a 5-10 minute walk. This has become my favourite place to stay in London when I don't need to be right in the centre. I expect to be there next time in am in town.

It's a shame that the desktop items are now charged where they were previously free - that was a lovely touch. However, we are living in hard times. Scaffolding has been up for a long time too - not that it interferes with the enjoyment of the hotel.

Location of the hotel is very good. Nice surround, near to the centre and underground. Interior of the room is nicely made and decorated.

Room 8 was without windows. Smell of the room was very bed (humidity). Bathroom worn out with broken details. Impossible to take a rest in room during a day, because during the day a strong noise (hardly to say behind the wall or from underground or railway nearby). During night I also woke up from the same noise. Deposit money was reserved for 2 weeks after staying in hotel.

The location for us was fantastic. Our room was lovely and freshly decorated.

Currently undergoing refurb work which we were unaware of. Did not spoil enjoyment of hotel/trip.

  • Older travelers

Great location, close to tube and Little Venice, yet off the beaten track in a leafy part of London. Room comfortable, as was bed. Staff friendly and helpful, especially breakfast waiters, had to go out and buy tomato ketchup for us for our breakfast the first morning!

No tea/ coffee making facilities. Mini bar extortionate. Shower difficult to get in and out of because of position of sink. Breakfast not included in price.

What a warm, friendly and accommodating luxury hotel! The staff was efficient and knowledgeable. The resident cat was a delight. A really wonderful hotel!
